Jun 22 - Day 173: Letter of Appreciation for my Hair Donation

Three months ago I chopped off 12 - 14" of my hair to make a hair donation. There are many organizations that accept healthy natural hair and make wigs with natural hair for cancer patients and for children who are suffering from hair loss due to medical conditions. After doing some research I sent my hair to beautiful lengths 6-7 weeks ago. I was not sure if they would accept my hair as I have some gray hair and have used henna, a natural dye, to dye my hair. I received the this letter 2-3 days ago and only saw it yesterday. I was happy the hair is good to be used for a wig. At least 8 ponytails are required to make one wig and my hair is going to be one of eight ponies that is going to be used to make a wig. These wigs will help cancer patients suffering from hair loss due to cancer treatment.
Years ago when I cut my hair short, I did not know about the hair donation. In 2001, when I cut my long hair short, my building door main asked me if I had donated the hair and that was the first time I came to know about hair donation. I felt bad I had missed an opportunity to donate and that was the second time I had cut my long hair short. I could finally donate the hair this year and this might probably be the first and last hair donate. I would love to do it again but my gray hair might be a problem next time. :(

Jun 16 - Day 167: Create Detail Photo - Lock 2

I was surprised how many locks I spotted in the park. I should probably do a theme on locks. :) I could not decide on which photo to post hence posting both, though I like the shallow depth of field in the above picture.

Jun 14 - Day 165: Detail Photos - Flower

I am part of a photo group on Facebook. We pick a theme every week and try to post a photo at least once a week. I am not very active in the group but try to keep up with the themes whenever possible. The theme for this week is create detail photos. I really liked this theme and it is not as easy as I had expected it to be. I took a few pictures today and of all the pictures, this is the best of the lot. You will be seeing more detail photos under this week.

Jun 11 - Day 162: Walk by the East River

There is a walkway by the East River and once in a while I go there for a walk, specially in the evenings. Though this walk way is close to where I live and I like walking there, I prefer going to the park. This walk way is right next to FDR drive and is not as peaceful, quite & calm as it is in the Central Park. Yesterday while I was walking, spotted this NYPD boat patrolling the waters of the river.

Jun 3 - Day 154: Green Chilies!!

I found some chilies and the price isn't ridiculously expensive either. $5.99 a pound is still more than twice the regular price but I was over joyed to find some chilies and also at a decent price. A month ago it was $12 a pound. There is a ban on chilies and I have heard various reasons for the ban. One version is that USDA found some bacteria on these green chilies and banned them for sometime. The second version is that some of the Asian countries were importing drugs in the chilies and hence the ban. However I seriously doubt that as I always thought that the chilies we get here in the US were grown in the south; Florida & Southern California or were imported from Mexico. The third version from a Thai storekeeper is that there is a drought in California and hence the shortage of Thai chilies. Regardless of the reason, there is a shortage in chilies, specially on the east coast. My friends and family on the west coast are not even aware of it.
