July 26 - Roses

I took a picture of my packed bags to leave to Memphis the next day. I accidentally deleted the picture, hence posting a picture I took when I was in San Jose couple of weeks ago, in the Heritage Rose Gardens.

July 24 - Jai Srimannarayana

His Holiness Chinna Jeeyar Swami is performing a Vishwa Shanti (World Peace) Yaga in NJ. It started on Friday the 23rd and concludes on Aug 1st. I was there yesterday, that is the 24th. I am not a very religious person but was their as my aunt wanted to see the yaga. She wanted to see how the puja and rituals are performed here in the US, compared to India.

One the building I love in New York City is Chrysler Building. I like this building more than the Empire State Building.

July 19 - My new cookbook!

This cookbook was on sale for $3.99.  The original price is $7.  Author of the book is no where listed and if it were not on sale, I would not have purchased it, not that I would have minded paying $3 more for the book, if I really wanted it.

July 17 - Corn on the cob

This was my dinner. Corn on the cob roasted on the stove top served with garlic butter olive oil dip made me nostalgic!

July 14 - Grand Canyon

We took a chopper tour from Vegas to Grand Canyon. Loved this view of Lake Mead (I think it is Lake Mead).

Aerial view of Hoover Dam.

Grand Canyons.

July 7 - Window Display

During Christmas, all the department stores in the city have a Christmas theme for the window display. Everyone talks about Macy's and Saks window display but I for one always liked the displays of Lords & Taylor. Each and every year, I found theirs to be the best. I was at the store and since I haven't clicked a picture yet, decided to make their summer window display my pic of the day!

July 6 - Air India customer service

It was mind boggling talking to Air India customer service. I spoke to 3 different people in a span of 8 hours and all three of them gave me three different and conflicting pieces of information regarding one question. I wanted to post a food related picture but since Air India was on top of my mind, decided to post this instead. Took this picture while playing a you tube video.

July 5 - Cooking for the blog

It has been almost couple of months since I updated my cooking blog.  Today's cooking was for the blog.  One preparation was specifically for the blog and the other, kakarakaya kura or bitter gourd fry was on the menu today and since I have not posted anything in a while, I asked my mom to note down the ingredients when she prepared it.  Will update MySpicyKitchen in a day or two with the recipe.  I also made Kara Sev today for the blog.  I will put that recipe on the 15th of this month, as that is when I am suppose to put it up for the Indian Cooking Challenge, a food blog event.

July 4 - Fireworks

Went to see the fireworks today.  Since we have moved to New York, I have never been to the waterfront  to watch the fireworks. The first 3 years, the fireworks were on the East River and we could get a glimpse of the fireworks form our apartment.  Last year they moved it to the Hudson River and even this year too, it was on the Hudson River.  Since my mom is here this year, I took her to the west side to see the Macy's Fireworks.  We managed to get a decent spot on the 12th avenue and 57th street.  The view from there was very clear but from the photography perspective, I chose the worst possible spot.  I could not capture a clear and clean picture of the fireworks because of the traffic lights and the street lamps.

More pictures of the fireworks.

July 3 - Trying to recover

Since past 10-15 days, I have a soar throat, on and off runny nose and cough for the past 10 days. I Initially thought it was an allergy and took Zyrtec. Last Sunday the runny nose and sneezing become worse and by monday morning had a slight fever. Then switched to Sudafed, took it 3 times a day and by Tuesday runny nose stopped and was feeling much better. There was this lingering cough and cold. Over the counter medicines make me very drowsy so since Tuesday I was taking the medicine only in the nights. This morning when I got up, I was sick of the cold & cough, and decided to take full dose of medication today and relax. I took one dose after breakfast and napped for couple of hours, another dose after lunch and napped again for another couple of hours. Now I am getting ready to have my dinner, take another dose of medicine and dose of to sleep. Hopefully my cold and cough will clear up by tomorrow.  If it doesn't by Tuesday, I am going to see the doctor first thing Tuesday morning.  Wish you all a happy July 4th weekend!

July 2 - A box of mangoes

This is the first box of mangoes I purchased this season!  I bought raw mangoes a few times for cooking but have not eaten ripe mangoes this season.  Ripe aroma of the mangoes tempted me to pick up a whole box when I was doing my Indian groceries in Jackson Heights this afternoon.  I am yet to taste them and hope they as delicious as they smelled!

July 1 - Tribal woman

Say hello to tribal Indian woman in my living room.

A vessel carrying some machinery. Shot these pictures almost a month a ago when I was by the East River.  I did not get any good pictures today and decided to put these as one of today's pictures.  After drafting the post, did not feel like posting  archived picture for the photo project.
